So here we go again. For the millionth time since I started this blog I am going to try and post again. I originally started this blog a few years ago when I moved to San Diego with the two Andrews (Bou and Rice) to keep people in Vancouver up to speed on my trip. Then it became just a random update blog, which worked out OK for a little while, but I failed to keep it going. Recently I have had private discussions with a few of my friends on various topics, but one thing that continuously came up was the way we do things. It seems that no matter what we do, everyone in our circle wants to be there. Let me side track for a quick second and tell you our circle runs about 20 deep in total, but normally ranges from 8-24, maybe more. Doing anything in a group this size is challenging. Organizing it all takes patience and a level head, two things I do not consider myself to be strong in. Luckily we have AvoidableHill (his xbox live name for those who want to add him and beat him at NHL or Call of Duty)
Back on track. The reason everyone wants to be there is because there is usually one moment every time we do something that an inside joke comes about. Whether it be a stupid redneck laugh, Shitle Tot, Why so dressed up?, wut doing or anything else, we play it out like there is no tomorrow. If you do not know the origin, it is not as funny, but everyone is quick to learn and jump on board. Every group of friends does it, has their inside jokes that they use for ever. With us however, it has become THE reason to go out. My close friend said it best: "everyone wants to hang out every night because they don't want to miss the shit we do. When they hear about it and all of the stories they get pissed." It is not a direct quote but it was something along those lines. So, without further rambling, I bring you the weekend update. This will hopefully give people a little more of an inside view as to what we do. For now I will not use real names because I have not cleared it with anyone.
FRIDAY - HAPPY BDAY HEEMBO & MANBAOBAO
I got off work at 5 and headed home for a somewhat busy night. My friends Heembo and Manbaobao were celebrating their birthdays together at an Indian restaurant. Also, a co-worker had her party at Caprice which I was to attend after the dinner. We arrived at the restaurant, 24 of us in tow, and were sat in the back at three different tables, 8 per table. The food was good, as was the atmosphere, but what I really enjoyed was catching up with people I have not seen in a while. Once the marathon was over (we arrived at 9 and did not leave until 11:30 or so) we headed downtown to a place called Johnny Fox's. This was perfect for me because Caprice was half a block away so I could go to my friends party. Much to my dismay there was a massive line, as always, and I decided to not wait and head back to Fox's. Not much else to report, a pretty solid night, I went to bed happy.
SATURDAY - WORK, RAMBO, UFC, CANUCKS, VIDEO GAMES
Saturday was a busy day for me. I woke up and headed straight out to White Rock where I was doing some work for a few hours. I got lost a few times on the way (thanks Google Maps, not the best, true THAT, double true) but ended up there only a few minutes late. I worked from 1-4 then headed to Cleves' house to watch UFC. When I arrived they had just started Rambo which turned out to be a better movie than I expected. I am a Stallone fan, and am glad he realized the two roles he does best are Rocky and Rambo. It finished at a perfect time as everyone started arriving to watch St.Pierre beat BJ Penn. St.Pierre worked his game plan to perfection and picked apart BJ earning a fourth round victory. At this point I would like to thank Fukake for his $20. The best part of the evening was when Joe Rogan went to interview a nervous Thiago Alves. He was discussing being the number one contender and his apparent title shot when he said "I am very excited for my Shitle Tot"......a new phrase is born. After the fight a few of us hung around and played some video games til about 3am and headed home. Jungo and I are unbeatable at NHL and are the 5 Diamond Dynasty. I think we will enter a tournament....
SUNDAY - WORK AND SUPER BOWL
I had to get up at 8am on Sunday to get ready for work. I was heading down to the Spring Festival (Chinese New Years Parade) as our company was in the parade. Although it was raining, cold, damp and miserable, I had a great time. We have a pretty tight group at work, but this brought the ones that attended much closer. It took alot of energy to not only stay positive for the people in attendance, but also to try and stay warm. It made it much easier when you look into the crowd of people lining the streets and think about them having to do the same just to see a parade. Makes being in it that much more special. Once it was over I could not get home fast enough, change out of my soaked clothes, grab some beers and head to Fukakes house for the Super Bowl. The game was good, even though I lost $20. Fukake was really dressed up and I did not know why. If i was hosting I would have been in sweats and a tee, but he was dressed. Why so dressed up Fukake? Why so dressed up? After hanging out for a short time I headed out for coffee with Sunny (sorry I could not think of a better nickname haha) We hung out for 2 hours or so and that was it. I headed home, Team America was on TV. Perfect way to end the week.
Thanks for reading this, especially if you got through the whole thing. Sorry I did not have any crazy stories to tell but it was a relatively tame weekend for me. Once again I am going to try and update as often as possible as long as I have something interesting to say. Thanks again, catch you soon.
